Pre Event Info

A totally new Permanent Orienteering Course has been created at Lyme, on a brand new map. Saturday 24th October is the Opening Event, open to everyone, regular orienteer and novice alike.

Everybody is welcome to buy a map (for £2) and go to as many or as few controls as they want.

Come along at any time between 10 am and 3 pm.
Registration, Start and Finish will be near the main car park.
Carry a pen to write down the symbols on the posts you visit.

For people who like to be competitive, there will be the option of a timed run on one of the suggested colour-coded courses, as listed on the back of the map. (White to Brown)
We will use SI for timing and will lend you an SI-card if you don’t have your own.
Times taken will be declared on the day, but no Results will be published.

The Timber Yard Cafe will be open for lunch or snacks.

Informal Inter Club Challenge

MDOC are challenging all the nearby O-clubs to take part in an informal competition using the POC courses.

Courses available are White, Yellow, Orange, Long Orange, Green, Blue and Brown. The control descriptions are on the back of the map.

Run any course you choose, but preferably the one most suited to your age class.

You will use a Control Card and will need to carry a pen/pencil to write down the symbols on the posts you visit. We will be using SI for the Start/Finish timing, so please bring your dibber if you have one. (Spares available.)

Scoring will be as follows:

  • On each course, points will be awarded based on your finishing position - 20 for the winner, then 19, 18, etc. down to 0. (Subsequent positions, if any, also score 0)
  • Club score: The best 10 scores to count (maximum of 3 from any course)

Times will be displayed on the day, but there won't be formal Results.

MDOC hope very much that you will come along and try out our new POC.
