Organiser/Planner Comments - Martin Green

Thankyou all for coming and making the mapping and planning worth while. Thankyou also to all the helpers on the day.

My apologies for not checking the printing earlier. The courses were originally designed to be printed with transparent controls, but printer speed caused this to be changed at the last minute. Hence the fatter controls and lack of ducks on most maps. The large number of 'uncrossable' rivers, railways and fences gave the planning a more urban feel.

I hoped you liked the format. Please put your routes up on Routegadget.

We hope to see you at the next sprint at Chorlton Water Park.

Series Co-ordinator Comments - David McCann

Many thanks to all who came along to Reddish Vale, the turnout was over 100 and comprised people of all ages and abilities which was great to see. It was satisfying to see a good number of newcomers and hear that they enjoyed it afterwards, please spread the word among your friends and fellow runners. The next Saturday race, using the chasing start format, will be Saturday 14th March at Chorlton Water Park, near Didsbury, just off the M60.

The courses were planned to accomodate all abilities, there were some good runs on white, yellow and orange. Our planner devised some slightly harder courses for the chasing start, especially on the proilogue which had a long leg that required concentration right at the start of the leg, to make sure you were on the correct side of the River Tame. We know some people crossed the river which was not intended and potentially dangerous. The river will be marked out of bounds next time. The chasing start race produced some good head to head racing, sometimes the groups leading each other astray. Our intention is to help runners speed up their thinking about route choices at speed, it appears to be working.

If you want to see which way others went on their courses and simulate head to head races, look at Routegadget on the website. Plot your own course and then compare it to others, it's surprising how much you can learn from seeing what other people did.

A final thank you to the staff at the visitor centre, for allowing us to use the area and for supplying helpers with refreshments. The centre itself and their website is well worth looking at.
