Event Report

Please note: on the Technical Score, it is the FIRST control punched that becomes YOUR MASTER control. If you haven't been given the bonus points you expected, this is probably the reason why.

Planner's Comments

Thank you for coming to Chorlton and joining us at the first event of the Autumn Series. The numbers exceeded our expectations - so special thanks to those of you who had to wait a few minutes whilst we found maps for you, and to those who gave up their maps to allow others to have a run.

As you will have seen, the vegetation was high, particularly in the open areas but hopefully you heeded our warnings to avoid it and take the paths where you could.

It has been interesting to see the options selected for the master control on the technical score. Many chose 121, whereas my thinking in the planning was that the optimum master controls were 120, 122 and 125, with 112 and 113 also giving the option for a couple of loops to the west of the lake. I look forward to seeing how this format works for the remaining events in the series.

Finally many thanks to all those who helped on the day, including the control collectors. Special thanks to Chris Rostron for his invaluable assistance before and during the event.

Organiser/Controller/Coordinator's comments

Apart from underestimating the popularity of Chorlton and not printing enough Score maps I hope everything on the organisation front ran smoothly for the Competitors. Thanks to those competitors who waited patiently at the start whilst I retrieved maps from finishing competitors who were very understanding and obliging.

A big thanks to all the helpers on the day and those offering help but were not needed.

From a controllers point of view thanks to Paul for finding some interesting control sites when lots of the areas were very overgrown and couldn't be used.

As Coordinator this year we tried to have a much simpler Technical score course than, for example, last years scheme.

Alas 3 competitors, forgot that the FIRST (Sorry to put it in capitals) control they punched would be their Master control. So a lot of time was wasted returning to a control they believed was their Master control but was not the first control they punched.
