Planners' Notes

When planning the Tech Score course, our perceived best 'base' control was 114. And most competitors did in fact choose this one. However, it was very interesting to see which other controls people chose, which also permitted numerous 'butterfly' loops of 2 or 3 intermediate controls. Several people stuck to this 'butterfly' principle throughout (visiting their base control as many as 8 times !), whilst others did 3 or 4 such loops and then managed to collect all (or nearly all) the other controls too.

However, we also wanted to make the normal Score course long enough to occupy 45 minutes, so placed controls at the extremities of the area, calculating that it would be at least 6Km to collect them all. So it required some pretty fast running and few mistakes to manage that.

When planning the Yellow course, we didn't expect some competitors to take the longer 'alternative' route between 1 & 2, outside the park along the busy road (Yellow courses are not meant to have any route choice!). Where we did expect them to have trouble they all managed fine! Yellow planners take note - expect the unexpected!
