Event Report
Many thanks for all who came along for the first in a series of 4 fun events. The weather was kind and stayed dry when further North was drenched. I did about 35 km of path running to check over the area so please accept apologies for not getting everything 100% correct such as marking a large track as having a large gate on it.
There was a definite animal theme to the event and some of the animal based clues caused problems.
#34 was a big topiary hedge with what I thought had 4 foxes and 1 cat looking over it. On closer inspection there was what could be taken as a short trunked elephant (not to scale) sitting on the hedge as well as a deformed bird. So I was very lenient here and accepted 5, 6 or 7.
#30 was one of the growing collections of static animals in this area and I saw a Stag/Deer. I accepted sheep and dog although the dog was sitting, not standing.
#27 was a giraffe. Elephant was given by some and there was one quite nearby but far enough away to make it wrong, and you did have to peer through a hedge to see it.
#7 The signage at the Hall at Marthall, Donald Read or Read was accepted as well as Boyling. The correct answer was on a small plaque on the large swinging sign right of the car park entrance.
Several wrong answers appear to have been given as a result of not looking on ALL sides of signposts to get the total number of horses/signposts.
One comment that needs to be made is that if a green footpath goes round the side of a field, please use it and don't cut the corner, it annoys landowners who have been known to come along and "discuss" it with organisers.
The manager at the Dog was pleased with the business, the kitchen was under pressure but performed well.
