Manchester and District Orienteering Club
"John o' Goats" Charity Event at Lyme Park
The selected charity this year was the Lake District Search and Mountain Rescue Association, as a thank you for their help during the 2008 OMM, which was called off.
So it's ironic that the fund raising event was also called off at the last minute. All the controls were in place when we were told that the park gates were closed and please could we leave as soon as possible. The conditions were not good in and around the car park and access roads and out on the courses there would have been fresh snow covering sheet ice.
Many thanks to all who did make it to the park for this popular annual event. If anyone who made donations or bought raffle tickets would like a refund please let me (David McCann) know within a week, otherwise we will assume you are happy for the monies to proceed as intended to the Lakes Rescue Teams.
If anyone who could not make it would like to make a donation anyway, please contact me.
We will look into dates in the near future to stage the event, if this is not possible we will rerun next year. Watch this site for details, which will be publicised to other clubs and on runners web forums.
Finally, thanks are due to all the helpers in advance and on the day when the weather was not ideal for any of the jobs essential to make these events run.
