Organiser's Comments - Andy Thornton

Thanks to all those of you who went along to Poynton I think you will agree that it was another great evening, lovely weather, nice countryside, and a good pub too. Sadly this was the last event in this series for 2011. We will be back next year and there will also be a series of urban street events on Thursday evenings in the autumn. Details of these will appear on the MDOC website

Big thanks to Jane McCann for the excellent planning!!

Planner's Comments - Jane McCann

An alternative title for this event could have been "Some of my favourite places". I've enjoyed planning this event, which has introduced many variations to my regular running routes as I tried out new footpaths in the search for potential controls. I tried to tempt you to go up onto the moors and into Lyme Park, but wisely most of you recognised that this involved significant climb and instead took the opportunity to explore the extensive path network across the fields.

Lessons learnt from previous events: as this series has progressed the planners have given more detailed and specific clues in an attempt to remove ambiguity. I followed this lead and I'm pleased to report that most answers were correct, or at least there was sufficient evidence for me to believe you had been to the correct location. Clearly many struggled with the difference between a sheep and a pig, which did take me by surprise. There were also problems with Control 33 which was a telegraph pole. I used a nearby pole last year and many went to a different one. So this year I chose that one, and many of you appear to have visited last years! It is difficult to be exact when using an OS base, therefore I have accepted both answers.

Lessons learnt for future events: there are more control opportunities and there is more route choice in the lower areas of this map. Perhaps we should simply base the event on the fields and ignore the higher ground?
