Event Report

Thanks to all who came and supported the first score event last night. The area we used is surprisingly close to built up areas but in many places you will not have noticed that. To the East of the map there are some hills which will have given excellent views across to the Welsh hills (apologies to people who went to 47 and were looking for a red and white sign, the clue was a mistake. In fact the clue for 50 was the right one for 47 on the map).

There was one farm where cows and calves were in a field with the footpath through it. In cases like this use caution, but remember you have every right to be on the path.

Talking of paths, it seems some direct routes across the golf course were used. Please try to avoid this and stick to the paths, even if they may be vaguely marked.

No-one went to 40 or 46. 46 in particular had a tough climb back up to the road.

Updated results below following a few queries. I could not count the number of rusty padlocks so was marking the correct answer as wrong, and the Prosecco and Beer sign was found to be missing.

Pre Event Info

Venue: Dog and Partridge, 88 Buxton Road, High Lane, Stockport, Greater Manchester, SK6 8HJ

Rural score event using public rights of way on an enlarged OS map extract.
60 or 90 minute score event.
Bring a pen/pencil and your watch.

Each control on the map will be marked by a numbered circle. On the clue sheet there will be a clue asking a question about an object at the centre of the circle. The answer should be written on the clue sheet next to the question. We try to keep the clues as unambiguous as possible. A typical clue will be;

Date on the BENCH commemorating Eileen Dover.

A great network of paths around High Lane give you the chance to explore places you've never been before, see some odd structures and at the same time have a good run in open fields and well kept paths (well mostly well kept).

The busy A6 crosses the area. There are pedestrian crossings on these may not be the best way to cross. The Middlewood Way and the Macclesfield Canal both offer excellent, traffic free options to cross under the A6.

Location

Nearest town: High lane

Directions / Parking

Plenty of parking at the pub but please try to leave spaces for the regulars. Overflow parking is on local residential roads, we suggest you don't park on the A6 itself.
