Event Report
Once again thanks for supporting the event. Starting at the Boars Head offers so many options we keep coming back. One option is the planners choice of a portrait map or a landscape map. Unfortunately, this year was a Landscape map, which meant we could either give you loads of poynto to run around, which is not really countryside, or the lovely hills going up into Lyme Park....obviously we chose Lyme Park.
Many choosing the 60 minute run did avoid the biggest hills by sticking to the inclines and the approaches to Lyme.
I was lenient on several clues;
12 At the Cage in Lyme Park, I accepted Remember which is on the West sundial, Vive Hodie is on the East.
28 NW area of the map, a telegraph pole where the circle was misplaced. I know the numbers on all the pole there, so accepted any correct ones.
40 Pond in Lyme Park, the sign suggesting you play Pooh sticks had gone, I judged whether you had been there based on what you wrote anyway. No extra points for guessing the correct answer.
There was a problem with cows in a field at Platt Wood farm that resulted in the farmer contacting us. The cows were approaching calving. The field had 2 public footpaths going through it. Our advice is to use caution in these situations, slow down, even to a walk and be prepared to alter your route if you feel in danger. It's not worth risking damage to cows or yourself.
Next event and last in this series is at Horwich End, see the website for details.

Pre Event Info
Venue: The Boars Head, 2 Shrigley Rd N, Poynton, Stockport SK12 1TE.
In contrast to the last run at Dunham Massey where it was the first time the area was used, we return to a venue that has been used frequently since 2010.
Rural score event using public rights of way on an enlarged OS map extract.
60 or 90 minute score event. You can choose which time you run for after starting - very handy if you are miles away when 60 minutes expires.
Bring a pen/pencil and a watch.
Each control on the map will be marked by a numbered circle. On the clue sheet there will be a clue asking a question about an object at the centre of the circle. The answer should be written on the clue sheet next to the question. We try to keep the clues as unambiguous as possible. A typical clue will not be;
How many sheep are in the grassy field over the stile?
A typical clue will be. "Who does the bench commemorate?"
A great network of paths around Higher Poynton will give you the chance to explore places you've never been before, visit some hills up into Lyme Park if you like or stick to the flatter areas around Poynton and generally have a good run in open fields and well kept paths (well mostly well kept but stuff does grow fast at this time of year and one field in particular will be energy sapping if farmer has not cut the grass).
