Pre Event Info

Three MapRun sprint courses, designated as A, B, and C, will be available. Each course will range between 2.5km and 3km in length on an updated map. Competitors can participate in any one, any two, or all three courses at their convenience between 10:00am and 3:00pm.

The Sprints can be found from the MapRun App in the folder:

The courses are called Sprint A, Sprint B and Sprint C.

Each competitor will be assigned a handicap based on their current BOF ranking points. The time taken for each course will be adjusted according to this handicap.

# Prizes

Seven prizes will be awarded, with only one prize per competitor, in the following categories and order:

  • To the competitor with the fastest handicapped aggregate time for all three courses.
  • To the winners of the doubles combinations: A&B, A&C, and B&C.
  • To the winners of individual courses A, B, and C.

Registration & Start Times

Everyone should pre-register using the RaceSignUp Registration System. This will guarantee a map is available for you.

Limited EOD, subject to map availability.
Please pay by contactless card at Registration on the day.
Fee £6/£3     SI card hire free. (£30 charge if lost)
Registration/payment from 10:00am.
Starts between 10:30am and 3:00pm. Courses close 4pm.

Course Information

Three MapRun sprint courses, designated as A, B, and C, will be available.

Explanation of colour courses

  • White are very easy with all controls on paths. They are mainly used by 6-10 year olds and family groups.
  • Yellow use simple linear features like paths, walls and streams. They are mainly used by under 12’s and family groups.
  • Orange progress to basic use of the compass and route choice. They are ideal for novice adults or experienced youngsters.
  • Light Green are ideal for improvers as the navigational difficulty begins to increase and uses simple contours and point features.
  • Green are used mostly by experienced under 18’s and adults wanting a short but challenging course with a very hard navigational difficulty.
  • Blue are a longer, more physically demanding course in comparison to the green. The distances are more varied between controls and the course attracts experienced orienteers.
  • Brown & Black are very physically demanding and have a very hard navigational difficulty. They are for experienced orienteers only.
  • Score means visiting as many controls as possible in any order in a specific time, like 45mins.
