Congratulations to Alice and Tom Fellbaum who have been selected to run in the World Schools event in Madrid next Spring. Qualification consisted of a special qualification race on Saturday 16th November, followed by a race in school year classes at the British Schools Championships on the Sunday.

The event in Madrid next year will see teams from all over the World.

Full details are on the BSOA website.

Yvette Baker Trophy qualifier
Posted on November 10th, 2008

We fielded a small team at this years qualifying event at Torver, depleted mainly due to a clash of dates with an Interland selection race in the New Forest (well done to all the juniors who went there - some really good results).

The weather was excellent for the time of year, blue skies and little wind, most ran in short sleeved tops. The courses were well planned and the terrain was challenging with quite a lot of complex detail.

Romane Salathe and Matthew Fellbaum had good runs on the orange. The rest of the team ran well on yellow, Rosie Ogden, Jason and Hector Salathe, James and Tom McCann.

Many thanks to all the runners and accompanying parents.

DEE and WCOC qualified for the final in Kings Lynn on December 6th, not an easy journey. DEE in particular have a good chance of winning overall as they have strength in all ages, and it would be great if they did win as this would mean all the junior trophies, JIRCS, Peter Palmer and Yvette Baker reside in the North West.

The target for next year is to retain the Peter Palmer Trophy and be in the final for the Yvette Baker.

MDOC Juniors win Peter Palmer Relays
Posted on September 9th, 2008

In 2007 we were 7th, on Sunday we went several better and came 1st, winning the Peter Palmer Trophy.

The competition was held in Middleton Park near Leeds and included the traditional Peter Palmer elements of a night with very little sleep, early morning start (meaning first leg runners off at 5 am) and less than perfect weather (torrential rain over night luckily held off for the race itself). We entered 2 teams.

Our winning team was, in running order;
Tom Fellbaum
Roger Bryant
Alice Fellbaum
Alex McCann
Rebecca Humphreys, Catriona Paton, Alana Birtwistle
Elliot Malkin

We were in the top 4 from the end of the first leg and always in contention for the overall lead, gaining it after some legs (this was sometimes difficult to follow exactly).

Elliot set off in third, just over a minute down on Sarum and close to EBOR. He then had 6.4 km and three visits to a spectator control. On the first and second visits he was still third and on the third visit was second but still a minute down on the leader SARUM. Another loop in the woods and a final push up the hill saw him emerge at the final control around 20m ahead, which was maintained until the finish. About 30 seconds later Elliot came out of download with confirmation he had not mispunched.

A total distance of over a half marathon and a margin of 8 seconds.

EBOR second and SARUM third.

Well done to ALL runners on BOTH teams, you all did really well. Thanks also to Vicky for coming along as a helper and provider of insight into how the courses might be planned - invaluable. We both learnt things we can use next year to defend the trophy.

Full details of the results can be found on the AIRE website.
