Opening of a new Permanent Orienteering Course on a new map of Lyme

Saturday 24th October 2015

The original Lyme POC was opened in 1976. Was it the first, or just one of the first in the country?  After nearly 40 years we decided to start from scratch and create a new POC, using a totally re-surveyed map of the Park.

The National Trust are extremely supportive of the project. Their volunteers are going to help “plant” the posts.

03rd Oct 15

We are having an Opening Event on October 24th

Everybody welcome to buy a map (for £2) and go to as many or as few controls as they want, to walk or run, to make it part of a day out at Lyme.

If you aren’t a National Trust member you will have to pay the £7 NT parking fee.

Come along at any time between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Registration, Start and Finish will be near the main car park
Carry a pen to write down the symbols on the posts you visit.

For people who like to be competitive, there will be the option of a timed run on one of the suggested colour-coded courses, as listed on the back of the map. (White to Brown).
We will use SI for timing and will lend you an SI-card if you don’t have your own.
Times taken will be declared on the day, but no Results will be published.

The Courtyard Café will be open for lunch or snacks.

MDOC hope very much that you will come along and try out our new POC.
